The Geneseo Migrant Center provides a variety of services to migrant farmworkers residing in the immediate service area of the Center as well as coordinating programs benefiting migrant workers on a regional, statewide, and national level. The services of the Geneseo Migrant Center 

are administered by two organizational entities: the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, an intermediate educational agency serving twenty-two school districts, and the Geneseo Migrant Center, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community services agency.

In Camp ABE / ESL / GED Instruction

Funded by the NYS Department of Education, Employment Preparation Education Program (EPE)

Instructors provide adult basic education instruction throughout the migrant season in area camps and homes. Instruction stresses the improvement of reading levels or English as a Second Language through the use of survival skills and other relevant learning activities.


Migrant Medical / Dental Program

Funded by the New York State Department of Health, Finger Lakes Community Health, and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo: William F. Thiel Trust

A medical team offers in-camp screenings, mid-level care, and referrals, while a dental team provides education, examinations, cleaning, fillings, and extractions in offices in Leicester, New York.


Creative Artists Migrant Program Services (CAMPS)

Funded by the NYS Council on the Arts (NYSCA)

CAMPS provides arts activities including music and dance performances, arts and crafts, drawing and painting, photography, and sculpture. Field trips to various art activities and events take place throughout the season. The project preserves and displays traditional arts and practices through various art exhibitions.


Migrant Literature Project

Funded by the NYS Council on the Arts (NYSCA)

Poets and fiction writers present readings of their own work and/or the work of other writers as well as conducting writing workshops for migrant workers.



Administered through the East Bloomfield Central School

Special educational and support services for migrant children who also meet federal criteria as homeless.

Genesee Valley Migrant Education Tutorial Support Services Program (METS)

Funded by NYS Migrant Education Department

The Genesee Valley METS serves children, ages 3-21, whose families have moved across school district lines for employment in agriculture. Service area extends over 8 counties and 53 school districts where family educators, teaching assistants, and outreach workers are engaged in tutoring, ESL instruction, adolescent outreach, summer educational programs, and family literacy and support activities.

National PASS Center

Funded by numerous state Migrant Education Programs

The National PASS Center (NPC) was established in 1997 to serve as a national clearinghouse and coordinating center for bringing PASS (Portable Assisted Study Sequence) courses into alignment with current academic learning standards. Located in western New York as part of the Geneseo Migrant Center, the NPC is charged with overseeing the development of academically rigorous yet accessible and cost-effective courses, providing support materials and trainings, and acting as a resource for information on program implementation, promising practices, and state contacts. The NPC is funded by state participation and distribution site license fees, as well as periodic, course-specific grants from various entities.


Geneseo Migrant Center Clearinghouse

The Center has assembled a comprehensive collection of materials on migrant farmworker issues. Staff fill numerous requests for information from this collection. The Center also operates a toll-free hotline (1-800-245-5681).
